Pleasant warm summer evenings with family or friends are no longer in the distant future. People like to spend quality time with their favourite people and maybe even their pets outdoors, especially when the weather is warm and beautiful. Unfortunately, the weather is often quite volatile even during summer. And during rain you have to take your favourite people back indoors. As an excellent solution to this problem, Malmerk Klaasium offers terrace glazing. In addition to their elegant nature, glazed terraces are also extremely practical. In case of bad weather, it is possible to quickly turn your terrace into a weatherproof sanctuary with lots of natural light.
If you want to enjoy your summer to the fullest without having to worry about bad weather, glazed terraces are just for you. In addition to one of the most annoying problems in our country, which is mosquitoes, glazing your terrace also offers a solution to many other inconveniences. The construction of a glazed terrace is a bit more expensive than an open terrace, but the price of terrace glass certainly does not exceed the value of lost summer experiences.
Enclosed terraces are easier to maintain. With strong winds, branches, leaves, dust or other unnecessary debris can fly onto the terrace. That means that an open terrace has to be cleaned frequently which tends to be annoying. On the other hand, the maintenance of a glazed terrace does not have to be performed so often and is nowhere near as annoying.
Glazed terraces reduce noise. The noise of passing cars, loud children or your neighbour’s lawn mower can spoil the mood of a cosy summer evening. Thus, terraces in and around large cities benefit most from glazing. When living in a noisy area, the built-in terrace offers a blissful and peaceful environment. This type of terrace is a perfect place to gather your thoughts or even meditate.
Glass terraces are cosy even in rainy weather. It is not necessary to move indoors due to bad weather conditions. Malmerk Klaasium 6, 8 or 10 mm thick tempered clear glass protects from both rain and wind. To create an even more cosy atmosphere, the party host can also choose tinted glasses in different colours.
Enclosed terraces are open terraces. Fortunately, there are also many clear and sunny days. In this case, the terrace, which has already been built to be weatherproof, can be unfolded with ease. Framed glasses can be folded to one side of the terrace. We will talk about framed and frameless terrace glass in more detail in the second half of the article.
Malmerk Klaasium represents the two most well-known directions – terrace glazing system with or without frames. If we look at the functionality of both, they don’t make much difference. Rather, the difference lies in the design – you have to set your vision and act on it.
A sliding system consisting of different modules with frames allows you to open all the glass modules at once and close them to the terrace in one go. With the framed solution, stylish frames run vertically through the glass of the terrace, which adds an elegant look to the terrace. This type of terrace is also very easy to maintain.
If you want to keep a more minimalistic or cleaner line in the appearance of the terrace, we recommend that you make your choice in favour of this solution. Also, for this type of system, the view is not limited by vertical frames. However, since the frameless solution does not rest on the ground, the glass is a bit more complicated to install.

The balcony is a nice and practical place, where it’s possible to store things, arrange a pleasant stay with the family or (in the case of a glazed balcony) even grow different plants. In addition to its practical nature, the balcony plays another important role. In the architectural point of view, the balcony railings are an important factor in the overall appearance and style of the building. As the balcony railings are the first thing that is seen from the outside. Their style can completely change the look of the building as a whole. High-quality balcony railings make the building look more luxurious and increase its value.
When glazing balconies, the entire balcony will be covered. But with balcony railings only the lower part of the balcony will be covered. Balcony railings are a mandatory element for balconies, which make balconies a safer place, and balcony glazing can be seen as an added value.
Certainly one of our big goals is to offer versatile solutions. Basically, we categorize our balcony railings into four different types. For fans of minimalist solutions, full glass railings are definitely the best. Glass aluminum railings are very popular, especially for their high durability and unique appearance. Fans of practical solutions prefer rod railings that are easy to install and require almost no maintenance. We are always ready for challenges and we also offer special solutions so that the architect still gets the desired end result.
By combining aluminum and glass, it’s possible to produce very different solutions. Its great advantage is the high strength of the structure. In addition, this style of glass railings has a modern look. The construction of balcony railings is produced from powder-coated aluminum profiles on the basis of the RAL colour catalog. Railing posts are available in two sizes and there are four types of handrails of different styles. We usually use 6 mm and 8 mm tempered glass in our balcony railings. Due to its strength, tempered and laminated glass can itself be a supporting element of the balcony railing. Full glass railings are perfect for fans of an open and breathable design. Malmerk Klaasium glass railings have two types of fastening: bottom profile and point fixing. When using a lower profile, practically only the surface of the glass remains visible on the facade, and point-fixed glass borders are installed with stainless steel fastening elements through the openings in the glass. Being made entirely out of aluminium, the biggest advantage of the rod railings is its comfort and strength. This type of railing is easy to install and is virtually maintenance free. Who wouldn’t want to live in an environment of maximum value? Quality of life is certainly not a fixed indicator, it can be modified according to your preferences and needs. Glazing balconies is one way to increase this value. Our homes are places that should be carefully thought out because our homes are places where we should feel safe and well.
Many people live in old panel houses that need some refurbishment today and in the worst case scenario, some more extensive repairs. And those changes are made for several reasons: both to improve one’s own housing quality and to increase the value of real estate. If the apartments in the panel houses are tidied up, their layouts slightly changed and additional space is created in the form of glazed balconies, then the apartments can be successfully rented out to AirBNB or the local rental market to earn some extra money for example. April has been traditionally very busy month for Malmerk Klaasium. Also this year we take part of two local fairs (in Estonia) and in October you can find us at fair in Lillestrøm, Norway.
In Estonia we are presenting most of our products – balcony and terrace glazing system, balcony railings, glass partition walls, glass roofs and winter gardens. On Scandinavian market we have a bit smaller exposition by focusing on balcony- and terrace glazing systems and balcony railings.
In 2016 we were focused on developing and renewing our webpage, this year our goal is to add a semi-automated system to it in order to manage inquiries. This should significantly speed-up response time for the customers during the high season. In terms of products we present a new railing solution – rod railing. We continue developing our balcony- and terrace glazing system and the aim is to launch the low profile for the terrace glazing system.
At the fair you can see all the products in real life and it is possible to try how different systems function. We give advice how to find the best solution for your company or for your home. At the fair we can give also estimated price range for different products. And of course, we are opened for partnership discussion.

Dear business partner/customer,
We are glad to announce that our product development has completed the work on a new high quality balcony glazing system. The new product passed Finnish VTT tests in the end of 2012 and currently the CE-marking is in formalization phase.
In order to focus on the new product’s growth, we have made some changes on the organisational level. The balcony glazing department of AS Malmerk Fassaadid has been separated into a new company OÜ Malmerk Klaasium. Malmerk Klaasium deals with balcony and terrace glazing systems, balcony railings, glass partition walls, sliding doors and glass-aluminium roof constructions whereas AS Malmerk Fassaadid continues mainly with manufacturing and installation of glass-aluminium facades and aluminium doors and windows.
All the signed contracts with AS Malmerk Fassaadid in terms of balcony, terrace and glass partition wall products will be finished under the same company, but all the new contracts (since 1st of February 2013) will be signed already with OÜ Malmerk Klaasium.
Current CEO of AS Malmerk Fassaadid, Andrus Tammo, has moved to the board of Malmerk Group and to the board of both named companies. AS Malmerk Fassaadid new CEO is Tõnis Neilinn.
